I’m an old school fan of the original New Universe, which was published by Marvel Comics from 1986-1990. But when I see articles like this, proclaiming the Star Brand to be positioned to be at the center of the Marvel Universe, I am greatly intrigued. I haven’t read new Marvel issues in a long time, but I’m going to try to figure out what’s going on with the Starbrand in the current Marvel Universe. I’ll do so here. Comments and help with this project are welcome. www.google.com/amp/s/www.cbr.com/avengers-700-positions-starbrand-center-marvel-universe/amp/

Here’s my defense of liking the New Universe characters appearing in the current Marvel Universe, even though I myself sometimes find some of the stuff they’re doing with those characters to be downright blasphemous. There was a dry and weary time period, from approximately 1995-2006, when the New Universe had no comic book appearances at all. To make matters far worse even, the New Universe not only didn’t get any respect from comicdom, it was oft-maligned and joked about. This was a very discouraging (approximately) 4,000 days for a New Universe lover, indeed. I could only dream of a New Universe return. Then, amazingly, beautifully, in 2006 Marvel released a series of one-shots and backups featuring all eight of the original New Universe titles. I speak, of course, of the Untold Tales of the New Universe. I personally was very pleased with these stories, as I felt they captured the spirit of the original New Universe. Then, New Universe fans like me once again went into a period of suffering, so to speak, until Jonathan Hickman decided to use Star Brand in his Avengers run, starting in 2013. It may not have been Ken Connell, but, by golly, Hickman, a talented writer in the midst of an acclaimed run on the Avengers, paved the way for what we’re now seeing in the Marvel Universe, as the Starbrand itself has grown in importance in the 616. Indeed, it’s the concept of the Starbrand being assimilated into the current Marvel Universe by some very talented writers, and I’m thrilled about it. You see, I once walked through a dry and weary land for 4,000 days or so, (can you tell I haven’t forgotten that?) and there was no New Universe there. If you are one of those New Universe fans that is offended by appearances of our beloved characters in the current Universe, and I often feel that way myself at some of the reinterpretations, I urge you to consider the fact that a new generation may be thrilling to the Starbrand in a different way than we ever did! There’s likely no going back to the 1986 World Outside Our Windows. New comic books are what they are. I’m thrilled to see some of these characters getting their shots in the current Marvel Universe. I recently watched a video on YouTube wherein some new comic book expert talked about the Starbrand for twenty minutes, and all the stuff it was doing and implications it had in the current Marvel Universe. Heck, the Starbrand is being accepted as a cool concept by today’s creators and fans! I humbly submit to you that this is far better than 1995-2006 was for us New Universe fans, not to mention the suffering we incurred from 2007-2013. We all just need to be reminded of those times when the New Universe was all but forgotten. That is no longer the case! I remain, Nuked With The New, and your servant in...

With a new multi-part story coming up in Avengers called “Star Brand Reborn”, I’m hopeful it will be a character I can get behind. Either way, I’m thrilled that Shooter’s concept for Star Brand is alive and well once again.

November 27th is the release date of Avengers #27, (2018 series) which features Starbrand Reborn part 1. If it ends up being the new wielder of the Starbrand that’s featured in INCOMING, this issue could get pricey fast.
